ARTIST PROFILE
Mandy Pearson is a self-taught artist whose main artistic love is portraiture. Predominantly working in acrylics, she also enjoys exploring watercolour.
The use of light and shadow enables Mandy to weave a story into her work, as do the often craggy and unusual subjects she chooses to paint. She extends her love of faces into her pottery work, with her 1920’s style lady cameos and her unique clock faces.
Mandy’s works include:
-
‘Finalist’ - Dean Cogle Portrait Prize 2020 – “Just a Man”;
-
‘Highly Commended’ - MIAC Monochrome Challenge 2020 – “Steamin’ Green”;
-
‘People’s Choice’ - MIAC Monochrome Challenge 2019 – “Old Man of the Sea”;
-
‘People’s Choice’ - RICARTS Australia Day Challenge 2018 – “Gidday Possums”.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I have enjoyed drawing since I was a kid, studied art in high school for four years and wanted to be a commercial artist “when I grew up”. However, as often happens, I was encouraged to “get a real job” first. Life soon took over and art pretty much drifted into the background until I moved to the islands in 2016. I discovered RICARTS, started attending pottery and began drawing again. I discovered the plethora of online art courses and started painting. It was such a buzz when I hung my first works at The Farm, Arthouse & Gallery. I’m always thrilled to see my art hanging in a gallery – it’s a very special feeling to create something and put it out there for the world to see and comment on. That’s something that I never thought I’d have the courage to do.
